What a psychological thriller! ‘Go Home, Afton’ by Brent Jones is an absolutely amazing book which every mystery and psychology lover NEEDS to read!
This book follows the story of Afton Morisson who considers herself to be a psychotic. She is strong, both physically and mentally. She also has a tendency to build walls around her and push people away. She considers herself to be an independent woman who earns and can handle all situations by herself. She has ‘a twin spirit sister’ who she talks to for real. In reality, she only has a brother whom she sees only once a week.
Afton is extraordinarily interested in murder mysteries, blood, and often has pangs of desire to kill. Animus, her ghostly twin, who is in the words of the author ‘a manifestation of her darkest desires’, often tries to lead the way for Afton to kill somebody, anybody. But, luckily, Afton keeps her sane and doesn’t let Animus control her.
Our protagonist has decided to kill Kenneth without whom the world is better off. The book starts with Afton being in her car noticing the actions of Kenneth outside a bar. She follows him almost every day just to make sure that when the D-Day came, she would be ready.
But why? Why would she want to kill Kenneth? Is he a random target? Or does he really deserve to be killed? You need to read the book to know all of this!
I like Afton because she is raw. Although, she doesn’t show her love to the people she really loves but, she does feel it to the fullest. She is not mean, even if she is in her eyes. Other characters I like include Kim, Jared, and Chris (Afton’s brother).
This book is filled with humour and logic. There are not many characters that you can hate. I love the idea behind Animus. I love how the psychological aspect has been a bit personified in the book.
I couldn’t stop reading this book! I always needed to know what happened next. There are some amazing twists in this book and I am glad I’ve read it! I absolutely loved it and am so ready to read the sequel!
I highly recommend this book to all those who love reading psychology thrillers, murder mysteries, and mysteries in general! This one is not going to disappoint you as it is both plot and character driven that too, efficiently!

Hi Meher,
What an awesome review.
I love that you gave the book 4.75 stars. I’ve never seen someone use a quarter-star rating system before, so you had my interest piqued right out of the gate.
If you loved some of the secondary characters, such as Chris, Jared, Kim, and Tia, you’ll like books two, three, and four. The secondary characters get in on a lot more of the action, whether they want to or not.
Plenty more twists and turns to come.
Thanks for reading,
—Brent
