Two lives. Struggles on both sides. But, the will to overcome them remains the same.
That’s the shortest way to describe this book! ‘Flying Without Wings’ by Rishabh Puri is a romance novel. Well, I don’t really read romance novels but, we all find it in almost every other book. I liked the fact that this book does not JUST focus on the love. It also focuses on struggles and the desire to overcome them. It talks about how important it is to not lose hope when in dire situations.
Milli Bajwa, born and brought up in Chandigarh, is a young woman who doesn’t have much to look forward to but, still lives every day with a smile on her face. She works in a duty-free shop in the Chandigarh airport and all day long, sees people happily travel in and out of the country. Milli loves to indulge in her own magical bookish and fantasy world every now and then but, she is wise enough to make out the difference between reality and dreams.
Being an independent woman, she handles everything on her own. She doesn’t like to be lent money and doesn’t like to have favours done upon her. However, sometimes, she feels like her life could’ve been a bit better if she had a man by her side. She doesn’t feel attracted towards the ones that want to become her friends but, she does want to find someone who would care for her and love her. She knows nobody would suddenly appear in front of her. She is too bored and so she decides to sign up on a dating app. Well, things take a turn for her, now.
The parallel life that we follow in this book is of Karan Singhania. A rich guy who has always had luxury on his fingertips, Karan still looks for something else. He wants something that cannot be bought with money – true love. Karan has had many women in his life who have loved him for nothing but his money. They would please him just to make sure that he is there when they need to buy their favourite perfumes.
Karan is a grounded man. He is a voracious reader. He has been through a lot. His health and body wellness hasn’t been great ever since he was a year old. He’s spent much of his life in hospitals and now, it doesn’t seem to be abnormal whenever he has check-ups to attend. All he really wants is to meet a person who would understand him like no one else, who would love him not for his money but, for who he is. Sick of being alone, he finally decides to come on a dating app, not really hoping for much.
Would these souls ever find their ‘best halves’? Would they ever know that they are not alone in whatever they are going through? To know all of it, you need to read this book!
I love the character of Karan more than that of Milli. Karan has a vibrant personality and for sure, he’s my favourite character from the book. Other characters that I like include Amit and Mallvika.
Some points and scenes seemed to be a bit repetitive and a few descriptions seemed to be too long but, apart from that I don’t have any other criticism to offer!
I must admit that I always wanted to know what happened next! While reading this one, I couldn’t make many guesses! If you’re somebody who loves romance novels, emotional rides, and inspirational reads then you must give ‘Flying Without Wings’ a try! You’ll surely like it!
My favourite quote from the book:
“In spite of what it might look like, you’ve got to think that you’re winning. It’s the only way to never end up defeated.”
~ Rishabh Puri, Flying Without Wings
