Outside And Within
By Meher Gandhi
I can see it coming,
My eyes have become watery again.
I can see the castles crumbling,
Outside and within.
Maybe it’s just the wind howling,
Maybe it’s just the storm.
It looks like the rain’s ranting,
The desert has it in it’s loveliest form.
Ignoring the screeching splashing sounds,
I move forwards.
I don’t know if it’s the valley or the river,
That I’m looking towards.
Wheedles have turned into warnings,
My cries into learnings.
My talks with the despair haven’t changed,
The best ones are often left estranged.
And, all the wincing had once taught me
To hold on to the strings tight.
When the tornados had rushed past me,
And I was left numb in the middle of daylight.
I know, the connection with glee is not still,
The wires are all loose.
There can be fire any moment,
Oh, I’m loosing sight of all the clues.
Yet again, I can see it coming,
But, my eyes refuse to be watery again.
I can see the castles crumbling,
Outside and within.

This poem is perfect for my mood. My favorite line is “I move forwards.” It’s the “s” that struck me. I’d read this line primarily as I move forward- like, you know, moving forward. But adding the “s” felt to me like you were separating “I” as a different part of yourself. Like a soul moving forward regardless of life’s circumstances. I could be reading too deeply into it, but isn’t that the beauty of poetry? Every word points to a truth we can see from the corners of our eyes but never quite focus directly on. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for the little gift.

I am so very glad that you liked it and that you’ve hit the nail! Yes, that ‘s’ was deliberately put and I am happy that it could be perceived the way it was intended to! There’s a distinction made between the physical and the emotional or spiritual part of me.
Thank you so very much!

I am feeling light n heavy at the same time.. Light because it has just struck the right notes for me n heavy as all this is so true.. beautifully expressed! That ‘s’ was undoubtedly not to be missed.. knowing you in and out, knew that it was deliberately added and it had such a deep meaning attached. Thank you for feeding us with such food for thought! ! Rise and shine always ♡♡

Courage, tenacity, hope…all trump trepidation…you’ve beautifully embodied the good fight…the one-foot-in-front-of-the-other struggle to find our way to the light. Thanks for sharing your wonderful offering 🙂
